Established over 40 years ago, Duncan Street Pre-school Playgroup has an outstanding reputation within the local community. In February 2014 we moved premises to Mayfield Salisbury Church and we changed our name to Newington Nursery in April 2015.
The staff team is experienced and long serving and is led by our nursery leader Mrs Truesdale, a qualified teacher, who has worked with us since 2010. Having worked together for many years as a team, our staff pride themselves in their consistency and continuity of care as well being able to cater for the individual needs of each child. As a small group, our generous staff to pupil ratio further supports our high level of individual attention at all nursery ages.
Within our nurturing environment children can develop the skills, independence and confidence to prepare them for starting school.
Part time and full time funded places are available for children aged 3 to starting school. The nursery has been a partner provider in conjunction with the City of Edinburgh Council since January 2000 and follows the curriculum for excellence.
Our daily session runs from 9am to 12.20pm Monday to Friday following the school term dates.
Each day includes a period of energetic play, either indoors or outdoors, as well as activities in the front garden area, weather permitting..
The Board is made up of parents, carers and volunteers and is the managing body of Newington Nursery.
Everyone is encouraged to get involved. The more active and vibrant the Board, the more successful we are as a nursery – and the more you, as a parent, get out of the Newington Nursery community.
Being a community nursery we also have a parent/carer on duty each session. We ask our parents/carers to help out in our nursery a few times a term. This is arranged on a rota basis and we welcome mums, dads, grandparents and nannies. It is a lovely opportunity for our parents to see what we get up to every day and to get to know the other children and staff.
“A nurturing environment for the children. It's a great atmosphere for the children to feel secure and stimulated.”
“The nursery has enthusiastic staff, a positive attitude, is friendly and welcoming, has happy children, provides a good range of activities, and good healthy snacks.”
